Summer Institute: Planning & Designing Programs and Exhibits For 2018, the Certificate in Museum Studies program is introducing a new way of learning: The Summer Institute. Same great courses, same expert instructors, but in a bold new format! From August 13-17, 2018, students will have a unique opportunity to complete two CMS courses (Exhibit Planning & Design and Education Programs) at once in an immersive and collegial environment. Topics covered in this learner-centred course will include: design thinking, learning and teaching philosophies, interpretive planning, creating museum experiences that respond to emerging trends and changes within the museum field, principles of design, writing for museum audiences, digital tools, evaluation strategies and related standards and policies. Students will complete two take-home assignments and receive credit for two CMS courses. Those who have already taken one of the two courses that make up the Summer Institute will only be required to submit an assignment for one course, however, since the Institute integrates both topics, students should plan to attend all 5 days of the course.
